This product has been extensively applied in various liquid personal care products and household cleaners, e.g. shampoo, bathing lotion, facial cleanser, hand cleanser, dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent and liquid soap, etc. with the properties of thickening, foam boosting, lipid layer enhancing and promoting the cleaning efficiency.

Introduction to the thickener and foam booster CMMEA

 

. Source and function

Cocamide methyl monoethanolamine (CMMEA), a coconut oil derived nonionic surfactant, is a thickener and foam booster with the similar structure and performance of cocamide diethanolamine(CDEA) and cocamide monoethanolamine(CMEA). However, CDEA has been restricted to use by EU regulations and has been the non-preferred ingredient according to the Used cosmetics ingredients catalogue compiled by China Food and Drug Administration. Moreover, CMMEA has gradually become the upgrading product of CDEA. This product has been extensively applied in various liquid personal care products and household cleaners, e.g. shampoo, bathing lotion, facial cleanser, hand cleanser, dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent and liquid soap, etc. with the properties of thickening, foam boosting, lipid layer enhancing and promoting the cleaning efficiency.    

. Safety and irritability

CMMEA is a chemical stable ingredient, and it is free from the hazardous impurities to human beings such as diethanol amine and the corresponding nitrosamine., CMMEA causes less irritation to the skin due to the mild cleaning characteristic. It is a biodegradable surfactant.

. Performance and purpose

1This product is a liquid that it is not turbid and does not solidify above zero degrees centigrade. The apparent viscosity of the product is lower than that of CDEA and the temperature sensitivity of viscosity of the formula which containing CMMEA is less than that of CMEA. The formulation also has excellent properties such as frost resistance and heat resistance; it could effectively avoid the crystallization under lower temperature or color-darkening under higher temperature. The use and application of CMMEA is very convenient, it is easy to be dispersed in water, it has no cloud point, and it could be quickly dissolved in surfactant solution without any extra heating.

2This product is compatible with other type of surfactants and has excellent synergistic thickening and foam boosting properties for anionic surfactant formulation, e.g. AES/AOS or AES/LAS, especially the liquid formulation which containing AEO. The effect of synergistic thickening with anionic surfactant is more obvious when the formulation is acidic, therefore, it can be used as the thickener for the formulation of acryl amino acid surfactant. It also has a good thickening performance even in the formulation with high oil content.

3The viscosity of the formulation of CMMEA as thickener and foam booster is not temperature sensitive and pH sensitive. It can be used to replacing CDEA in almost all of the formulations due to the better thickening performance and avoiding carcinogenic nitrosamines which may be caused by the residue diethanolamine. It can be used to replacing CMEA in almost all of the formulations due to the less temperature sensitive than that of CMEA and even no undesirable jelly like gel formed at lower temperatures. It can also be used to replacing the amine oxide and betaine type amphoteric surfactants in almost all of the formulations as the thickener and foam booster due to not introducing any additional stimulation/toxic impurities, not destroying the stability of the formulation, and the synergistic effect of the thickening and foam boosting performance.

4This product is in line with the requirements for advanced cosmetics ingredient thanks to the light color, small odor, and less impurities. It can be used as emulsifier for oily ingredient for stabilizing all kinds of cosmetics cream. It can be used in almost all sorts of personal care products thanks to the lipid layer enhancing for protecting the skin and anti-static property for the conditioning performance. This product can improve the oil removing and decontamination performance of the liquid detergent, especially suitable for the difficult thickening liquid detergent formulation. This product can be used in liquid soap for the enhancing hard-water tolerance of soap.
